The Ice Rain Phenomenon

 

            The Ice Rain is a rare phenomenon that occurs not only on sub tropic countries, but also on countries that sits on the equator of the earth. The Ice Rain itself means that the rain changes to ice instead of water, The Ice Rain has a lot way to happen, and sometimes make a notable damage, resulting many comments from many people.

One of the ways the Ice Rain could happen is when a thunderstorm updraft lifts a water droplet above freezing level in the atmosphere. The frozen water droplet then accretes super cooled water or water vapor, which freezes once it comes contact with the frozen droplet. This causes the ice to grow.

The Ice Rain phenomenon has recently happened on the 8^th of march 2022 in Bandung. The ice is reported to be the size of a marble ball. This causes reduced vision of drivers and fallen trees (CNN. 2022).

Many people comments about the ice rain about its unpredictability such as “The real problem that we come to is that even when the atmosphere looks like it really wants to produce ice rain, its actually rare that it does”. Said Tim Rupach, a post-doctoral climate scientist.

“unless hailstones happen to hit a hail observation pad or get detected by radar, hail data typically consists of individual people reporting hail, and people may not be all that reliable”. Said Michael Tippett.

The Ice Rain A.K.A Hail is a rare and potentially dangerous phenomenon. But, still it’s a beautiful and fascinating phenomenon despite its dangers.
